"Cinderella Man" is one of our top favorite Ron Howard films, along with one of our favorite Thomas Newman scores. Receiving three Academy Award nominations, the story follows boxer James J. Braddock - an Irish-American from New Jersey who loses everything in the Great Depression. Braddock became a true symbol of courage for the entire nation. The story is (literally) about his personal struggle to fight his way back from losing everything to something during one of the most difficult periods in American history. It is a beautiful and touching film with incredible performances by Paul Giamatti, Russell Crowe, and Renée Zellweger.
This scene features four (!) cues back-to-back in the last boxing match of the film, where Braddock is fighting for the world heavyweight championship. Clearly influenced by Scorsese's 'Raging Bull', the cinematography works perfectly with Thomas Newman's gorgeous score. From swelling strings to ambient soundscapes, Newman's ability to hit you hard with emotion punch at the climax is something unforgettable. Trust us when we say watch this snapshot from start to finish.
If you haven't seen this film, do so. You won't regret it.

As always, Thomas Newman is incredible at being able to musically define a moment, or character emotion. If anything, this 'Main Title' is a perfect example of defining the sterility of an elite prep school, with an outlier student looking for work over the Thanksgiving Holiday. Who can forget Pa...
