The design of the Ressikan flute prop featured in TNG was based on various different types of tin whistle. According to musician Brice Martin, who performed the piece, the flute pictured is a non-functional prop, and makes no sound when played. The instrument used to produce the song heard was an Oak tin whistle in the key of D.
